IoST B.Sc.CSIT Entrance 2083: The Ultimate Student Guide (New Pattern, Syllabus & Everything You Need)

Thinking about a career in Computer Science? B.Sc.CSIT could be your best move — and this guide will walk you through everything about the 2083 entrance exam, from the new pattern to application steps.

What Is B.Sc.CSIT?

B.Sc.CSIT stands for Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology. It is a four-year (8-semester) undergraduate program run under Tribhuvan University's Institute of Science and Technology (IoST). The program follows a semester-based grading system and is offered at constituent campuses as well as affiliated colleges across Nepal.

If you love computers, programming, problem-solving, and technology — this is one of the most in-demand degrees you can pursue in Nepal right now.

Who Can Apply? (Minimum Eligibility)

You are eligible to apply for B.Sc.CSIT if you meet any one of the following conditions:

1 - NEB +2 (Grading System): Passed 10+2 in Science stream (Physics and Mathematics compulsory, minimum 100/100 full marks subjects) with at least C grade in every subject.

2 - NEB +2 (Old marks system): Passed 10+2 in Science with Physics and Mathematics (minimum 100/100 full marks) in at least Second Division.

3 - I.Sc. or equivalent: Passed I.Sc. or an equivalent science certificate from a TU-recognized institution with Physics and Mathematics, in at least Second Division.

4 -  A Level: Passed A Level in Science subjects (Physics and Mathematics, minimum 100/100) with at least D Grade (with or without small letter).

5 - CTEVT Diploma: Completed a Three-Year Diploma in Engineering from CTEVT with Physics and Mathematics in at least Second Division.

6 - Foreign qualifications: Students from foreign institutions must submit equivalence documentation from the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur.

The Exam Pattern: What You're Actually Writing

The B.Sc.CSIT entrance is a fully objective (MCQ) paper of 100 marks, conducted over 2 hours. The questions come from your +2 Science curriculum (I.Sc./Grade 11 and 12 level).

Here is the group-wise breakdown:

Group Subject Marks Curriculum
Group A Mathematics 25 Grade 11
Group B Physics 25 Grade 11–12
Group C Chemistry 25 Grade 11–12
Group D English 15 Grade 11–12
Group E Computer / GK 10 GK

Total: 100 marks | Duration: 2 hours

The Game-Changer: No Negative Marking

This is arguably the most student-friendly aspect of the B.Sc.CSIT entrance. According to the official notice, there is absolutely no negative marking for wrong answers.

What does this mean for you practically?

Attempt every single question. Even if you are completely unsure, you have nothing to lose by guessing. With 4 MCQ options, a random guess gives you a 25% chance of being right — with zero downside. Students who leave questions blank are effectively throwing away free marks.

Pass Mark: 35%

To qualify in the entrance exam, you need a minimum of 35 out of 100 marks — that is 35%. While clearing this cutoff gets you on the merit list, your actual admission depends on your rank relative to available seats. The higher your score, the better your campus and program options.

Tiebreaker rule: If two students score the same total marks, the one with higher marks in Mathematics is ranked above. If still tied, Physics marks are checked next, then Chemistry, then English + Computer scores. In the final tiebreak scenario, the student with a lower academic level (younger in terms of educational qualification) is given preference.

Exam Date & Schedule

Mark your calendar:

Entrance Exam Date: 2083 Sharwan 24 (Aaitabar/Sunday) Time: 8:00 AM

The exam will be conducted at designated centers across Nepal. Your specific center will be mentioned on your admit card (Pravesh Patra), which you must download and print in color after your application is approved.

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

Step 1 — Visit the official website

Go to https://iost.tu.edu.np and find the entrance exam application form. All applications are completely online — no physical form submission is required.

Step 2 — Application window

  • Form opens: 2083 Ashadh 08 (10:00 AM)
  • Regular deadline: 2083 Shrawan 16
  • Late submission (double fee): 2083 Shrawan 17 to Shrawan 20

After the deadline, the portal closes automatically.

Step 3 — Pay the exam fee

The exam fee is Rs. 1,950 (one thousand nine hundred fifty rupees only). You can pay:

  • Through IoST's official website/app using online payment — after payment, save the Product ID / Voucher Code / Transaction ID to fill in the form.
  • Alternatively, deposit the amount at any branch of Global IME Bank in the account maintained under the Institute of Science and Technology. The bank voucher number is mandatory on the form. Online payments cannot be refunded once made.

Step 4 — Upload documents

You must upload the following during form submission:

  • Class 11 marksheet and Class 12 transcript (for students who have completed +2)
  • Class 11 marksheet and Class 12 admit card (for current Class 12 students)
  • Class 12 Pravesh Patra (for students enrolled in the current academic year's exam)

Students with NG (Non Graded) in up to 2 Class 12 subjects may still fill the form but will not be included in the merit list until NG is cleared. They can only be admitted if seats remain after clearing the NG grade.

Step 5 — Submit and print

After submitting the form, immediately print the Acknowledgement Page. This is your proof of application. Once approved, download your admit card (color print required) and bring it along with a valid photo ID on exam day.

Where Will You Write the Exam? (District Centers)

When you fill out the online form, you must select your preferred exam district. The available centers are:

Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Morang, Sunsari, Dhanusha, Parsa, Chitwan, Kaski, Rupandehi, Palpa, Dang, Banke, Surkhet, and Kanchanpur.

Choose the center closest to your location. You cannot change it after form submission, so decide carefully.

Subject-Wise Preparation Strategy

Mathematics (25 marks) — Your rank maker Focus on: Sets and functions, complex numbers, quadratic equations, sequences and series, matrices and determinants, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, and calculus (limits and derivatives). Grade 11 maths carries more weight here, so do not underestimate it.

Physics (25 marks) — Concept over formula Cover both Grade 11 and 12: Mechanics, work, energy and power, waves, optics, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics. Practice numerical problems but understand the concept behind every formula.

Chemistry (25 marks) — Balance both branches Organic chemistry (hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, reactions), inorganic chemistry (periodic table, chemical bonding, metals and nonmetals), and physical chemistry (solutions, equilibrium, electrolysis) from both grades. Grade 12 organic carries a lot of questions.

English (15 marks) — Quick wins Grammar is king: tenses, voice change, narration, conditionals, articles, and prepositions. Vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, fill-in-the-blanks) and one short comprehension passage. Prepare this in 2–3 focused weeks and score full marks.

Computer & GK (10 marks) — Don't ignore it Basic computer concepts (hardware, software, number systems, internet basics), and general knowledge about science and technology. These 10 marks are free if you spend even a few days on them. Past papers reveal a similar set of questions repeating every year.

B.Sc.CSIT vs B.E. Computer — Which One Is Right for You?

Many students confuse these two. Here's the simplest difference:

B.Sc.CSIT (under IoST) focuses on computer science theory, software, programming, algorithms, and data science. It is science-based and more flexible in terms of affiliated colleges available across Nepal.

B.E. Computer Engineering (under IOE) is engineering-focused, involves more hardware, networking, embedded systems alongside software, and carries an engineering degree (BE). It requires the IOE entrance, which is a separate exam entirely.

Both are excellent. If you love pure CS and software, B.Sc.CSIT is a strong choice. If you want an engineering degree and a broader scope, aim for IOE.
